Our 2013 Reunion of the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Ry. Preservation Society will be here before we know it. I wanted to give you a heads up on the upcoming Reunion, this year returning to Nashville. A registration form is enclosed with mailed copies of this newsletter; additional forms are available here or by contacting Secretary-Treasurer David Ellenburg.
As all of you know, Nashville was the business home of the NC&StL. There are dozens of NC sites to visit
including Union Station, Dutchman’s Curve, the site of the former New Shops, and NC locomotive 576, one of the J-3 Dixie Class 4-8-4’s, on permanent display in Centennial Park.
For the May 17-18 Reunion, we will be welcomed back by the Tennessee Central Railroad Museum. You may recall that at the last Reunion in Nashville, five years ago, we used the museum’s large meeting area for our gatherings, meals and displays.
Reunion weekend, the museum will be operating a Train Robbery excursion train to Watertown, http://www.tcry.org/pass_ops.htm As an option, Reunion attendees will have the opportunity to take advantage of the train ride. The train will board at 8:30 a.m. and will return to the
museum about 3:15 p.m. Note: if you are interested in riding the excursion, TCRM will hold NCPS train reservations until April 15, so your registration must be in our hand before that date.
One of the highlights of our last gathering in Nashville was both an HO and N scale layout in the TCRM meeting area. I have made arrangements to let our members have access to these layouts so that we can bring our loco-motives and rolling stock to operate.
Since our last Reunion in Nashville, a new club railroad layout has opened in Nolensville, Tenn. The Middle Tennessee Model Railroaders Club’s Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad, http://laslrailroad.net/, is a 5,000-square-foot layout. It’s so large, it’s housed in a warehouse!
The club has been building the layout since late 2007, and it’s now a fully functioning system that takes 12 to 15 people to operate. We will be visiting this layout Friday night.
There will be special ladies’ activities for spouses who want an alternative to train-related activities. Nashville has a rich variety of cultural, historical and shopping venues.
Our Reunion hotel will be the Club Nashville Inn and Suites, 2435 Atrium Way, Nashville, http://www.clubhotelnashville.com NCPS has procured a convention rate of $69.95 plus tax for the nights of the
17th and 18th. This hotel offers a full hot Southern buffet breakfast each morning, two queen beds per room, WiFi, a jacuzzi and fitness room and free parking.
We have reserved 15 rooms at the convention price, but the hotel is holding the $69.95 price ONLY THROUGH APRIL 17, so do not delay in calling in your reservation as soon as possible. Call the hotel at 615-883-0500 and tell them you want the NCPS convention rate.
Be sure to bring models, memo-rabilia and photos to display as well
as locomotives and rolling stock to operate. There will be plenty of time for old friends to meet and to catch up on stories and to relate the latest developments.
The 2008 Nashville meeting was one of the best-attended and best-received of all the NCPS Reunions. This one promises to be the same. We hope to see you in Nashville in May.
