Dutchman's Curve 100th Anniversary Events: July 6-9, 2018

Friday, July 6
6-8:30 p.m. – Video presentation and dinner, Bellevue Church of Christ. Meet relatives of train wreck victims. Dinner tickets can be purchased from Terry Coats. Information: https://bit.ly/2tbW0RR

Saturday, July 7
9 a.m.-4 p.m. – A Day on the Richland Creek Greenway, a series of interpretive walks through Dutchman's Curve led by Betsy Thorpe, author of "The Day the Whistles Cried: The Great Cornfield Meet at Dutchman's Curve." A special guest speaker will accompany her on each walk.

3 p.m. – Terry Coats, former president of the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Ry. Preservation Society, will lead a walk. His presentation will focus on the train wreck and the history of the NC&StL.

Sunday, July 8
1 p.m. –Ceremony in Mount Ararat Cemetery Pauper’s Field will pay homage to the 68 African-Americans who died at Dutch-man’s Curve and particularly the 18 unidentified victims buried in unmarked graves. Information: https://bit.ly/2sSEd2A

1:45 p.m. – Visit to the grave of train wreck victim and NC&StL Engineer William Lloyd at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Directions to the grave will be provided before the event. Information: https://bit.ly/2l8fgvV

2:30 p.m. – Visit to the graves of NC&StL Engineers John Nolan and David Kennedy at Calvary Cemetery. Both died in the wreck. Both graves are on Priests Circle.

Monday, July 9
7 a.m. – Memorial to the victims of the wreck on the old White Bridge Pike bridge on the Richland Creek Greenway. A recitation of victims’ names will be followed by a moment of silence.
