James F. Rust is an engineer on the Tracy City branch of the NC&StL
railroad. Born in Rutherford County, January 10, 1853… at
the age of seventeen years, or in the year 1870, he left home, went
to Tracy City, and entered the employ of the railroad company in
the capacity of brakeman. Three years later he became fireman, and
after serving in that capacity for nearly three years, he was make
engineer. August 13, 1879. Ever since he first entered the employ
of the company, he has worked on this branch, and has worked there
longer that any other man employed in that section.
